Supported Employment

Supported employment allows people with the most severe disabilities (i.e. psychiatric, mental retardation, learning disabilities, traumatic brain injury) to be competitively employed in a setting with others that do not have a disability. Supported Employment programs use job coaches (which are employment specialists) to provide supports, including:

• Identifying your skills and interests
• Help finding a job
• Making arrangements for job placement
• Teaching you how to do the job, and
• Providing assistance while employed.
