Health Care Access
Medicaid Work Incentive (MWI) premium
People with disabilities who work can now keep their Medicaid benefits while working if they qualify. The MWI program allows working people with disabilities to pay a premium and access Medicaid benefits if their income is below 250% of poverty level. (In 2003, a single person who earns $1,870 per month would meet the income guidelines.) MWI has the same health care benefits as other Medicaid programs. To qualify for the MWI Program the individual must have a disability under the Social Security Administration rules. The Premium is 15% of the individual’s countable-net-income.
