Transfer of Rights

When you turn 18 you are an adult and are legally responsible for your decisions and actions. When you turn 18, you become a legal adult. This includes your responsibilities and how you participate in your IEP. You and your parents will be informed by your 17th birthday of how this will change. Your school will use an Age of Majority form. Review the form and make sure you understand your new rights and responsibilities.

Help your parents understand that you are now an adult by sharing the

Parent Brief - Age of Majority Preparing Your Child to Make Good Choices. This brief stresses the importance of involving young people in setting their own high school goals and planning for their transition to adulthood.
